Racism in Italy - Cécile Kyenge, Italy’s first black minister and target of increasing racial slurs, had bananas thrown at her while making a speech .. the lady responded coolly that it was ‘a waste of food’.. (more here)
Lmao alright, as an actual Italian let me tell people why this is actual bullshit.
She was called slurs by another politician and on an isolated occasion she was target of more racism. I completely disagree with someone doing that. But that’s it. “Increasing racial slurs”? Holy shit, no. Kyenge thrived off of victimisation, and every time someone disagreed with her (terrible) ideas she found a way to twist it into a race issue when, surprise surprise, her political ideas were the ones being challenged, not her race.
Most people fucking loathed Kyenge because she went out of her way to insult Italy and Italians, not because she’s black. She was supposed to help people integrate yet she herself would not do it, she even claimed that she felt she could never not feel Congolese. She insulted all Italians by calling us inheretly racist over and over for no abiding with everyting she wanted to impose on us. She ostracised Italian children in school by claiming that the Italian youth is “meticcia” hence mixed race, when they are >5% of the population, counting the illegals and the ones with no citizenship as well. She wanted to claim historical Tuscan villages and turn them into asylum villages for illegals while WE paid for it all. And to top it all off she wants to change a bunch of laws so that we give free handouts to every non-Italian, when frankly, we can’t afford to.
Italy gave her the chance to live a better life, get a university education, work for the government and get a fuckton of money, and yet she was there working foe anyone BUT Italians.
Racism in Italy? Fuck no. A few people insulted her race because of their lack of intelligence, but she insulted us over and over for no reason and I will not be insulted even more by fucking tumblr where people know fuck all about Italian politics.
Jesus absolute fucking CHRIST. This made me so angry i wrote out a rant on mobile.
Provide sources when you get home, please.
Alright, as expected there are barely any sources in English because they aren’t international affairs, but I’ll still provide the Italian ones.
“Italy is a mixed race country”, this one was probably one of the worst because seeing as we are 92% Italian, and out of that 8% about 4% are European immigrants, and the rest non-European that leaves less than 4% of people to be mixed race. This way she ostracised the vast majority of the population. Also, pushing for citizenship changes.
This one is about giving government jobs to people who don’t have citizenship, only a residence permit. And not regular jobs, but government ones as well. As if Italy didn’t already have high unemployment. Once again, not working for us, but against us.
These deal with immigration and citizenship. The first three are about when she wanted to ban the “reato di clandestinità” hence not making it illegal for illegal aliens to sneak into Italy (and consequently Europe). The English one is self explanatory, also unrealistic because of the incredibly high cost and the fact that we can’t just give out citizenship like the USA because our population density is already too high and that it would also have to do with the rest of Europe.
Claiming that Congo is “in her heart” and part of who she is, and refusing to call herself only Italian even if she was the minister of Integration. So, she’s kind of going against her own job here.
I was wrong on these, the village was in Molise and not Tuscany. But yeah, handouts to immigrants (legal or otherwise), “government” (hence taxes) paid accomodations to them.
There’s more but I think that gives a general idea. It’s also rumoured that she moved here illegally and gained citizenship through marriage, and that gets her even more bad rep since she never denied it. Basically most criticism against her is because she doesn’t work for us, instead she puts other foreign nationals before us quite often. But pointing out her flaws gets you the racist card.
That being said, I still think that the people who said actual slurs to her and threw bananas at her are totally in the wrong, and whether or not you like someone, you should give them basic respect. There is plenty to criticise about her without having to retort to personal insults, which frankly put you in the wrong and not her. But I also think that Italians getting branded as universally racist just because she wasn’t everyone’s favourite politician is a crock of bullshit.
